Brad Wuetherick was recently appointed as the Associate Provost, Academic Programs, Teaching and Learning at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus in Kelowna, BC, Canada. In this role, he is responsible for the development of strategies to create an inclusive, anti-racist teaching and learning environment across the campus, with oversight of the Centre for Teaching and Learning, quality assurance for academic programs, educational pathways and student success, research on teaching and learning, and educational leadership. Up until May 1, Brad was the Executive Director, Learning and Teaching in the Office of the Provost and VP Academic, and Centre for Learning and Teaching, at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, Canada. In that role, Brad oversaw the Centre for Learning and Teaching and was responsible for a number of initiatives related to student success and retention, course design and program development processes, academic analytics, and equity and diversity in teaching and learning. Of Métis ancestry (one of Canada’s constitutionally recognized indigenous peoples), Brad was also the co-chair of Dalhousie’s Indigenous Council for the past five years. Prior to joining Dalhousie, Brad has been in a variety of leadership roles in teaching and learning, undergraduate student affairs, continuing education, and undergraduate research at both the University of Alberta and the University of Saskatchewan. An internationally recognized scholar of teaching and learning in Higher Education, Brad has published extensively on high-impact educational practices (including undergraduate research, service-learning, and ePortfolios), threshold concepts, the scholarship of teaching and learning, academic development, and mentorship in higher education. He is a former member of the Board of Directors for both the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in Canada and the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and has been involved in several other national and international organizations and initiatives related to teaching and learning in higher education over the past two decades.
