Steven Lancette

Technical Advisor

Steven Lancette is technical advisor for the Gardner Institute. One way or another, Steven has been involved with higher education his entire adult life. Even before completing his first bachelor’s degree, Steven served on a community college advisory board in his home state of Minnesota. For the past two decades, he has split his time into teaching quantitative subjects, data science grounded in theory and principles, and accumulating graduate degrees. He has taught a variety of courses from undergraduate basic algebra to graduate courses in quantitative research methods in education, both face-to-face and online. His data science experience covers a number of disparate fields. At the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, he conducted research on economic and high frequency finance data. At the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, he performed rural health epidemiology research on large insurance and Medicare claims. At Purdue University, he has focused on student success in higher education: educational tool and program evaluation, graduation rates, and using a systems approach to higher education learning analytics. Steven has been working with the Gardner Institute on learning analytics since 2014. He currently holds five master’s degrees: mathematics from the University of North Dakota, finance from the University of Iowa, and statistics, economics, and instructional design from Purdue University.
