Gateway to Change
The Gardner Institute works to improve outcomes for institutions, educators, and students education through collaborations such as the work being done in collaboration with the American Historical Association.
James Grossman and Drew Koch published an article “Gateways to Change” which discusses history education and completion of gateway courses which largely determine student success and completion. Grossman describes the need for a collaboration with the Gardner Institute and how we help institutions to create change through knowledge and experience in academics. Together they questioned key issues in gateway courses and drew from their respective areas of expertise to develop ideas to support institutions in creating programs to improve student outcomes.
This experiment is not the end of the work between American Historical Society and the Gardner institute, the mission continues in their upcoming discussions titled Listening to History comprised of two workshops, one for K-12 educators and one for postsecondary, in which educators are asked to share their concerns, experiences, and opinions to help create resources to support history educators.
